Updated: Feb 16

To take a 2x2 passport-size photo at home for free, start by capturing a square photo with a 1:1 aspect ratio using your iPhone camera. Next, adjust the photo's width and height to 2 inches by 2 inches using a Word document. Finally, print the resized image on photo paper using any printer.

01. Take a Square (1:1 Aspect Ratio) Photo

On an iPhone, open the camera app and choose the square (1:1) aspect ratio for your picture. To do this, tap the little arrow icon (v) located at the top-center. This will reveal options such as flashlight, exposure, aspect ratio (1:1 at the bottom), live picture, timer, etc. Refer to the image on the left for guidance.

Or, you can edit an existing photo to a 1:1 aspect ratio.

To create a 2x2 passport photo on your iPhone, open the image you'd like to use > Tap 'Edit' > Choose the 'Crop' option from the bottom menu > Select the square aspect ratio from the top > Adjust the picture area as needed > Tap 'Done' or 'Save' to finalize.

For Android phones, you can follow a similar process: capture an image and then crop it to a 1:1 aspect ratio. Essentially, we aim for a square photo with equal width and height.

02. Paste the Image on a Word document and Print

The second step is to copy and paste the square image into a Word document. You can achieve this by emailing the photo from your phone and using any Windows laptop to complete this step.

Open Microsoft Word > Insert picture > To resize a picture, on the Picture Tools Format tab, in the Size group, enter the new measurements (2.0" by 2.0") into the Height and Width boxes.

After changing the image size, copy and paste it 9 or 12 times, depending on the photo paper size you're using. On a standard page size, you can fit at least 12 photos with 2x2 dimensions and then proceed to print.

This can save you both money and time compared to getting it done at Walgreens or CVS. Thank you! If you have any questions, please feel free to comment below.
